Job Description:
The Mechanic is responsible for performing varied semi-skilled
mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and
physical plants and perform light construction and routine general
repair work throughout the zoo. Our Mission: Houston Zoo connects

wildlife. Job Duties and Responsibilities Performs inspections,
preventive maintenance, lubrication, and repairs on machinery such
as pumps, boilers, air conditioning units, meters, air compressors,
backhoes, incinerators, plumbing, trucks, and tractors. Daily use
of hand tools and special equipment such as welding torches to
test, repair, and maintain buildings' physical plants and
equipment. Performs light construction duties such as carpentry,
painting, and minor electrical and plumbing work as a helper.
Reports on unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment. Keeps records of
maintenance and repair work performed. Welds joints and pipes.
Assists with special events to ensure all events are a success.
Maintains the appropriate use of equipment and PPE. Contributes to
saving animals in the wild through: reduction of waste, water and
energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife
protection actions. Performs other duties as assigned. Education
and Experience High School / G.E.D. diploma Two (2) years of
education or training specific to mechanical duties. Some
proficiency in all trades, including electrical wiring, masonry,
finish carpentry and painting experience. Maintain a valid Texas
driver's license and comply with policy on driving ABOUT HOUSTON
